June is a dutch indie/pop band who’ve been rigorously writing new songs since January 2011. Their rich music is filled with layers of harmony and rolling rhythm along with carefully arranged strings, mellotrons and farfisas.
June is currently occupying their studio and keeping themselves busy writing and recording. A laborious, tiresome process. It’s delightful.
Pon Ki Pon is the first song recorded and mixed in our own studio. It's also the first June song without any electric guitars.
The song is about a friend moving on to a new stage in her life and the uncertainty this entails. The title is a riff on an old song by The Meters.
Released January 2014. Music and lyrics written and recorded by June. Produced by Joep de Bruijn. Trumpets played by our friend, the ever so gracious Bart van der List.
We recorded the Tantrums EP in Amsterdam with London producers John Mitchell and Ben Humphreys. The songs are about procastration, patience and calling out bigots hiding behind misinterpreted scripture.
Released June 2013. All music and lyrics by June. Produced and mixed by John Mitchell and Ben Humphreys. Recorded in Redbull Studios Amsterdam.
From today to early 2011
We've been busy. And even though we've been playing live a whole lot over these past few years, our main goal has been finding a unique voice. No easy task but we feel like we're on our way. We plan on recording an album this year.
June plays support for Go Back To The Zoo for a second time in Hedon (Zwolle). We play our biggest venue to date (850 paying visitors).
Writing new material. Having a blast trying new stuff. Our songs shift towards a more indie/pop sound. The studio gives us more opportunity to create new music than ever before.
We start building our own studio and elect Bart Goos the one true Alpha male in June.
We move to Amsterdam for a week to record our first EP with London producers John Mitchel and Ben Humphreys. An awesome time is had by all.
June enters the national Redbull Bedroomjam contest and wins it. After mobilizing a small army of fans we play support for dutch band Go Back To The Zoo and win the contest.
Selected as best band by the audience at the T-Strijd competition (Gebouw T), winning money and time in a proper recording studio.
June starts out as a funk/rock band. As the band evolves the funk and rock tone down, but catchy hooks have been essential to our sound right of the bat.
