June Music

Hello our name is June. We make groovy music filled with layers of harmony. Combining guitars with Mellotron, Farfisa and samples.

We love clever pop like Frank Ocean or Beyoncé as well as offbeat music like Sufjan Stevens. Not to mention classic funk by The Meters and Prince. We're currently writing and recording a new EP.

Pon Ki Pon

Listen on Bandcamp / Soundcloud

  • Pon Ki Pon is the first song recorded and mixed in our own studio. It's also the first June song without any electric guitars.

The song is about a friend moving on to a new stage in her life and the uncertainty this entails. The title is a riff on an old song by The Meters.

  • Released January 2014. Music and lyrics written and recorded by June. Produced by Joep de Bruijn. Trumpets played by our friend, the ever so gracious Bart van der List.

  • Don’t cut your hair, keep it long
You’ve got a fire burning, keep it on
    And don’t change your mind
    If you disagree
You’re ready to set sail, baby

    But don’t change your mind
    If you disagree
    We’re getting no younger, lately
Don’t look back to lead me on
I’ve been ruled by authorities for too long

Let me know what’s going on
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on

So cut your hair or keep it long
To me you’ll always be that stunning blonde
    Don’t lose your mind
    Over what should be
    I think you’re a natural, baby

Let me know what’s going on
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on
Let me know what’s going on
Keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on

Tantrums EP

Listen on Bandcamp / Soundcloud

  • We recorded the Tantrums EP in Amsterdam with London producers John Mitchell and Ben Humphreys. The songs are about procastration, patience and calling out bigots hiding behind misinterpreted scripture.

  • Released June 2013. All music and lyrics by June. Produced and mixed by John Mitchell and Ben Humphreys. Recorded in Redbull Studios Amsterdam.

    • The supervisors son is on the rise
      Just like his old man
      Now, that’s a fucking lie
      Oh oh oh
      College boys need no rest
      They get get get

      Thinking ahead
      Is not my strong suit

      So let’s pretend, I’ll honestly
      Try to be determined
      Sounds like work to me
      Oh oh oh
      Catwalk girls, show your stuff
      And strut strut strut

      Thinking ahead
      Is not my strong suit

Come visit me when you’re around
I never really leave the house
Make sure you call ahead my friend
      My Sunday morning’s never end
      My Sunday morning’s never end
    • Tantrums
      Lingering about
I’ve never been a woman on
      The verge of breaking down
      Tantrums
      She’s trowing them around
      Speaking in my mother’s voice
      That irritating sound

I’m a cocksure kid who had it coming after all
So baby don’t you worry, let’s get all emotional
I’m a cocksure kid who had it coming after all
So baby don’t you worry, let’s get all emotional

      Tantrums
      I’m listening again
      It doesn’t really matter now
      How likeable I am
      Tantrums
We head out for some air
The morning sunlight hits our eyes
I love it when you care

I’m a cocksure kid who had it coming after all
So baby don’t you worry, let’s get all emotional
I’m a cocksure kid who had it coming after all
So baby don’t you worry, let’s get all emotional
      Woo who who whooo
      Hey!
    • We are emotion in constant motion
Burnt at the stake, burnt at the stake
She’s into rainbows, her girlfriend also
Black is still black, don’t overreact

      Something borrowed and something blue
Do you like me? Like I like you?

We are emotion in constant motion
      Never awake, never awake
      Cruel tradition is no religion
Think what you want but don’t be a cunt

      Something borrowed and something blue
Do you like me? Like I like you?

      Dog, dog, dog, dog
      Hold on to your dogma

      Something borrowed and something blue
Do you like me? Like I like you?

She’s into rainbows, her girlfriend also
Black is still black, don’t overreact
